Where art thou?

And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? Genesis 3:9 Why did God ask that question? In Genesis 3: 8, Adam and Eve had sinned. They had eaten of the forbidden fruit, and the immediate response of sin was that, "they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD amongst the trees of the garden. I wonder why God ask Adam where he was, is it that God is not able to look on us in our sinful state or is it that sin hides us from God. Why did Adam and eve hide among the trees? We also see in St. Matt 27: 45 – 46, one of the more puzzling things for many Christians, the lamenting question that Christ uttered on the cross in His cry of, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
