8 Advantages People Who Keep A Journal Have Over Those Who Don't

Let me say, first of all, I believe with all my heart that keeping a prayer journal is an absolutely great way to spend time with God.

Personally, keeping a daily prayer journal where I can journal most of my prayers has been the single most rewarding habit/thing in my life over the past ten years, excluding music... Lol.

I will tell you later on why I call it a habit.

I have even written tons of different types of journals, yet to be published, including journals for children, teens, single moms, journals for thinkers, introverts, for people who worry a lot, journals for doctors, pastors, CEOs, politicians, gratitude journals and prosperity journals to name a few.

So why do you want to keep a journal?

Truth test: So many people struggle with having a consistent prayer life, if you are struggling, you are not alone and hey, there is help available so now you can breathe a sigh of relief.

I want to tell you that GOD is more eager to hear from you and answer you than you are to speak with Him.

Have you ever had someone in your life who you crave their attention or time, you just love talking with them but they often don't feel the same way?

If you can relate that's exactly it. God is more eager to hear from you than you are eager to speak with Him.

The Bible tells us he is. 1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
If you struggle to feel like God is listening or question whether your prayers are actually working, you might find it helpful to start a prayer journal.

So here are eight amazing advantages that people who keep a journal have over those who don't:
  1. Keeping a journal helps them to pay attention to whatever they are paying attention to.
  2. Their fundamental learning skills are heightened. That of LISTENING, LOOKING, and FEELING. You will be amazed at some of the things you suddenly begin taking special note of when you get into the routine of keeping a journal.
  3. They have a safe place to vent. A safe place to share their deep soul after all the bible encourages us to cast all our cares upon GOD for He cares for us. 1 Peter 5:7
  4. They are less distracted and are in charge of their own mind, emotions, and thinking.
  5. They enjoy better sleep after being able to vent and placing all their concerns at Jesus' feet.
  6. Their memory is improved coupled of course with proper rest and sleeping habits. This habit, like any other, requires effort to begin, more effort to sustain and an even greater effort to perfect.
  7. They are disciplining their minds to be specific when ASKING. You would be so surprised how many people do not know how to ask for what they want. I believe asking is an art and not a science, as the outcome is more important than the process.
  8. Keeping a journal is therapeutic. It helps with anxiety, fear, focus, anger, impatience, and a whole lot more.
So the truth is people who master the art of keeping a journal find the habit very rewarding and fulfilling.
It's not as difficult as it seems and it doesn't have to be another list of things to do. You can make it into a conversation and that I find to be more enjoyable.
I support the habit of writing down what we pray, the habit of praying, and the habit of also waiting and writing down God's response.
